Come and Experience the US 7th Fleet Band Performances in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Hi there people! I'm promoting this event to everyone who happens to live in Kota Kinabalu (KK), Sabah, who works or happens to be in KK or simply could travel to KK around 28 February to 1 March. My company (there's only my boss and I) are coordinating the US 7th Fleet Band Performances to be held in KK again this year and as requested by the American Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. It's fun that we work closely with them.

Their schedule of performances in KK are like:
28 February 2011 (Mon) @ 7pm - 8pm at the Ground Floor, Centre Point Sabah Shopping Complex
1 March 2011 (Tues) @ 9am - 10am at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah; @ 12noon - 1pm at the Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School & @ 8pm - 9pm at the Perdana Park, Tanjung Aru.

They have two teams of bands - Far East Edition (plays more contemporary music, Jazz, or big band style) and Ceremonial Band. And they are already like 68 years old band (created in 1943) and they are based in Yokosuka, Japan.

Boss and I will be checking the venue at Perdana Park this afternoon. We have invited a few VIPs like the Minister of Tourism, the Japanese Consul General because the band is based in Yokosuka, Japan, the new KK City Mayor, etc to come and see their last performance at this park on 1 March.

Check out their band (Far East Edition team) performing last year in Gaya Street, KK here. Video courtesy from www.budakhutan.com (thanks Budak Hutan).

If you love music band, I'm sure you'll enjoy them - So go check them out and experience their performance! Click on US 7th Fleet Band for more info.

And oh ya...happy weekend to ya'all!

Sick weeks

I didn't have the mood to blog for almost two weeks or maybe more - blame it on the bug flu! I think it's also because of the weather (rainy season) - that's what everyone says. I have to be on antibiotics because of my terrible sore throat and coughing so badly but still no sign of recovering yet...that's me I've got to admit it that I have a very, very weak immune system. Remedies like drinking honey + lemon or gargling salt water doesn't work well for me. My dad used to tell me that I'm the only child among 5 siblings who is always prone to get sick...that I could easily catch a cold. That's why I have no excuse to not buy and take up multi-vitamin supplements all my life. Guess that I didn't really take care of myself that well. I missed singing already but can't do with this prolong coughing...aaarrggh.

The sad thing is that my baby son Chardon also caught the sick bug from me...I know it's difficult to avoid this to happen. He had high fever & runny nose last week and the doctor had to give him antibiotics as well (not good). And now he's also coughing as badly as I am and often distracts his slumber time every night - deep sigh here:( I had to give my full attention and lots of TLC while nursing him and for that I had sleepless nights too. So everyday to work either driving with my sister or at times taking the public transportation (bus) - I will have some time to doze off all the way. The meds made me even more sleepier.

Anyway...I finished my antibiotics which I really hate to do and hope to get better very, very soon...same for Chardon too. It's heart-wreaking to even hear a baby coughing like adults do. Sorry it's boring sick weeks so this is a boring posts for you people I'm sure.

Well....more from me later so for now take care and don't get sick!

"Live to Dance" 2011 Contestants: Shore Thing, Jalen, D'Angelo & Amanda

I'm currently hooked like crazy over "Live to Dance" 2011 reality show. If I missed out watching it on Starworld, I'll definitely watch it through Youtube. I only favour and really heart for these amazing and young contestants - the dance groupie 'Shore Thing' , duo 'D'Angelo Castro and Amanda Carbajales and the solo dancer 'Jalen Testerman'. My goodness - they are so cute and super talented! I just can't get enough of them. I'll say it again - I LOVE THEM!

Here's 'Shore Thing' dancing during their audition. Their age ranges like 7 - 17 years old. I liked that they danced their way with MJ song at the audition- so cool!

I totally love this dancing duo 'D'Angelo and Amanda' - they claimed themselves as a couple already and will marry each other when they grow older...they are only 9 and 10 years old, oh my so romantic these two and they have cute sense of humor as well. And silly of me..I just knew that they are actually the 1st Winner of the "Live To Dance" inaugural season and they just won themselves half a million recently on 10 Feb. Good picks judges!

I also wouldn't wanna miss talking about another young and talented kid - yes, JALEN Testerman, he's only 9 years old and another awesome genius in the world of hip-hop dancing. He's too cute to just love...I'll keep pinching his cheeks if I ever meet him (hehe)! This kid is already way beyond famous and he has an official website-already.

And just look how amazing and matured he talks during an interview, as a 9 year old, not all kids says the darnest things and Jalen is a child prodigy!

For more of "Live to Dance" and Paula Abdul - click here. (Paula was my childhood celebrity idol not because of her voice but her dance moves on her videos - I really love dancing back then and still do now but it was just for fun). Anyway...can't wait for the next "Live To Dance" show. Now I wanna start dancing all over again...phewwiittt there you go mama!

Garage Sale

My sister, Debbie and I co-organised our 3rd Garage Sale to be held this coming Sunday, 13 February at the Sabah Training Primary School (STPS) Canopy Area, Tamparuli, Sabah from 10:30am - 4:00pm. We also get some friends to join us. This week was quite a busy week but lots of fun for Deb & I for we were putting up posters, collecting old stuffs and went shopping to wholesalers & retail stores to buy new stuffs to sell at our garage sale, doing tags and then labeling prices. What a great thing to do to start the new year huh?- just can't wait for Sunday to come. Hope my friend, Dolly could come and join to do her henna art. And oh yes, we are also doing this for a good deed to STPS - that 10% of our profit will go to their school fund.

If you are a Sabahan, and knows where STPS in Tamparuli is located, you are most welcome to come! It will be awesomely fun! If you need further info on the garage sale on what items we are selling or location, simply leave a comment in here or email me at don_cj2006@yahoo.com.

If you can make it, see you there - appreciate it!

Support our Sabahan talents!

I'm truly proud to be a Sabahan and I proudly support our local musicians - no doubt that we have many talented and best singers in this part of the earth!

One of them is Atama Katama - met him face to face during the launching of his 1st album 'My Tribal Roots' during our State's Harvest Festival celebration at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Centre at Penampang, Sabah back in 2004 or 2005? (can't recall which year exactly). I think I was one of the 1st person to buy his album at that time because his music is SO COOL (love the beat, love the voice, love all of it!) and it was a cool thing he did - bringing hip-hop into our local music industry. Nope...not gonna mention about some contraversial matters he got himself into...but he's one damn brave dude and the 'sketch' thing he did still made me giggle up to now. ( I think all Sabahans knows about this - he attracted lots of attention and pumped more publicity).

Anyway, since I can say I'm a fan, enjoy his music here and embrace our local talents! Also check here for more info about Atama and his music.

22 Ways to Become Spectacularly Inspirational by Robin Sharma

Here's another great tips from my fav 'Guru' - Robin Sharma. I think it's an awesome feeling to be someone inspirational or to inspire others.

22 Ways to Become Spectacularly Inspirational
By Robin Sharma, author of the #1 bestseller "The Leader Who Had No Title"

1. Do important work vs. merely offering opinions.

2. Lift people up vs. tear others down.

3. Use the words of leadership vs. the language of victimhood.

4. Don't worry about getting the credit for getting things done.

5. Become part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

6. Take your health to a level called superfit.

7. Commit to mastery of your craft instead of accepting mediocrity in your work.

8. Associate with people whose lives you want to be living.

9. Study for an hour a day. Double your learning and you'll triple your success.

10. Run your own race. "No one can possibly achieve real and lasting success by being a conformist," wrote billionaire J. Paul Getty

11. Do something small yet scary every single day.

12. Lead Without a Title.

13. Focus on people's strengths vs. obsessing around their weaknesses.

14. Remember that potential unused turns into pain. So dedicate yourself to expressing your best.

15. Smile more.

16. Listen more.

17. Read the autobiography of Nelson Mandela.

18. Reflect on the words of Eleanor Roosevelt who said: "Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people."

19. Persist longer than the critics suggest you should.

20. Say "please" and "thank you".

21. Love your loved ones.

22. Do work that matters.

In the year of the Rabbit

Art print by Marisa from Creative Thursday (oh, love her blog!)

Back from the lunar year holidays - its the year of the Rabbit and I like anything that has cute rabbit prints on it. Bought some from my fav store, DAISO Japan recently (will share pics later). I had a long weekend but not really a good one. I'm still recovering from a terrible sore throat and now coughing so badly - tried all remedies that still won't work on me, drank honey+lemon, garge salt and all but alas I had to get some antibiotics. My dad used to tell me that I have a weak immune system since I was a kid..I easily could catch a cold or the bug flu. Well, it seems like lots of people I know are sick with the bug flu these days especially my own family, Carmen & Chardon just recovered and I guess I got it from them.

Anyway, about the rabbit year....just sharing what 2011 will be for you and me:

The year of the Rabbit promises to bring some much-needed peace and tranquility. If you are like most people, you probably feel like you were on a roller coaster in 2010, the year of the Tiger. That will generally not be the case in 2011, as the Rabbit is everything the Tiger is not.

“Let there be peace -- and let it begin with me” is the Rabbit's motto. The Tiger makes waves, but the Rabbit mends fences. Diplomacy reigns. If you want to improve your chances of success, negotiate and cooperate rather than force your ideas on others. It’s also a time to kiss and make up. Forgive and forget. Let’s all get along. Make love not war. If last year the emphasis was on excitement, it’s now is on harmony.

Active people who are always on the go are likely to be unhappy with the Rabbit’s leisurely pace. They might find themselves in trouble if they try to move faster than the prevailing one. The Tiger, being the Yang to the Rabbit’s Yin, can still do well by modifying its style. This year the cautious, slow-but-sure approach is likely to win the day more than charging ahead.

What to do in a peaceful year? Education, for one. Leisurely travel is encouraged. Pursuing your hobbies is a very Rabbit thing to do and will bring you many happy moments.

The Rabbit should give most of us an opportunity to pause and catch our breath after a hectic 2010. It’s a time for peacemakers to shine. But it will have a metallic edge to it. From time to time, aggressiveness will suddenly materialize and disrupt the peace. For those who revel in a slow pace, however, it promises to be a most enjoyable time.

In the spirit of the Rabbit, peace be with you in 2011.

For me, this year is all about doing something great, making this year great for me & my family, moving towards my dreams, achieving goals, making myself proud and happy and try my very best to live life to the fullest! You go Mama Rock - have a great year!
