Helping out

It's been quiet in here for awhile huh? Been really busy these few weeks....our 2nd garage sale cum food bazaar was just over last Sunday which was a bigger success than the 1st one in February and it was more merrier and of course more fun because we had more friends participating selling their old stuffs and FOOD and more people came. I guess the 'food' attracted them. It was a lil difficult controlling my own 'shop' because I'm also helping my boss selling her old stuffs which are mostly clothes and stuff toys, so I need a lil assistance from 1 or 3 little or I mean young assistances to help me out - had to give them some tokens after that. I'll blog and post pictures about this later soon.

Right now, I'm busy helping out my ex-colleague & beastie, Melissa and ex-boss in the BIMP-EAGA Expo 2011 which will be held on 12- 15 March 2011 at the Sabah Trade Centre. I feel good helping them out although it's only for a week and I've been doing events for about 10 years now. That's my nature of work and almost everyday is a different routine which is great - never get bored. FYI, participating countries in the expo are from Brunei, Indonesia, M'sia, Philippines (a must from this 4 countries), China and Australia. It's more interesting than our Sabah International Expo because of Ms Susan (my ex-boss) contacts connection, we have like about 20 booths from the Philippines and they are selling alot of interesting stuffs. And the cool thing is that we'll be having our special VIP guest H.E. Fidel Ramos, Former President of the Philippines coming to officiate this event together with our Sabah Chief Minister. Met Mr Ramos at our 2004 SIE - the unique thing about him is that he wears glasses with only the frame and a cigar in his mouth without a smoke wherever he goes.

I'll be back in here again soon with more updates and music to share - so check me out ya!

Come and Experience the US 7th Fleet Band Performances in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Hi there people! I'm promoting this event to everyone who happens to live in Kota Kinabalu (KK), Sabah, who works or happens to be in KK or simply could travel to KK around 28 February to 1 March. My company (there's only my boss and I) are coordinating the US 7th Fleet Band Performances to be held in KK again this year and as requested by the American Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. It's fun that we work closely with them.

Their schedule of performances in KK are like:
28 February 2011 (Mon) @ 7pm - 8pm at the Ground Floor, Centre Point Sabah Shopping Complex
1 March 2011 (Tues) @ 9am - 10am at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah; @ 12noon - 1pm at the Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School & @ 8pm - 9pm at the Perdana Park, Tanjung Aru.

They have two teams of bands - Far East Edition (plays more contemporary music, Jazz, or big band style) and Ceremonial Band. And they are already like 68 years old band (created in 1943) and they are based in Yokosuka, Japan.

Boss and I will be checking the venue at Perdana Park this afternoon. We have invited a few VIPs like the Minister of Tourism, the Japanese Consul General because the band is based in Yokosuka, Japan, the new KK City Mayor, etc to come and see their last performance at this park on 1 March.

Check out their band (Far East Edition team) performing last year in Gaya Street, KK here. Video courtesy from www.budakhutan.com (thanks Budak Hutan).

If you love music band, I'm sure you'll enjoy them - So go check them out and experience their performance! Click on US 7th Fleet Band for more info.

And oh ya...happy weekend to ya'all!

Garage Sale

My sister, Debbie and I co-organised our 3rd Garage Sale to be held this coming Sunday, 13 February at the Sabah Training Primary School (STPS) Canopy Area, Tamparuli, Sabah from 10:30am - 4:00pm. We also get some friends to join us. This week was quite a busy week but lots of fun for Deb & I for we were putting up posters, collecting old stuffs and went shopping to wholesalers & retail stores to buy new stuffs to sell at our garage sale, doing tags and then labeling prices. What a great thing to do to start the new year huh?- just can't wait for Sunday to come. Hope my friend, Dolly could come and join to do her henna art. And oh yes, we are also doing this for a good deed to STPS - that 10% of our profit will go to their school fund.

If you are a Sabahan, and knows where STPS in Tamparuli is located, you are most welcome to come! It will be awesomely fun! If you need further info on the garage sale on what items we are selling or location, simply leave a comment in here or email me at don_cj2006@yahoo.com.

If you can make it, see you there - appreciate it!

Have a Cozy Weekend!

Weekend is here again - time flies! Not sure how my weekend will turn out this time. There's a camping activities going on at Dantai Beach, Kota Belud, Sabah and my husband is gonna be quite involve because it's a teachers camping retreat...but I don't think me & the children are coming along with him - scared of getting sick with 'Chikungunya' (lots of mosquitoes there).

So I might plan something to do like - do scrapbooking of the Twilight Saga & about my children; redecorate a plain notebook into something funky; update my blog; draft 1 or 2 short children stories or whatever. Not sure if I can ever start doing anything of these activities during this weekend but I shall try - but only when baby Chardon has dozed off:P

Wish to have a cozy weekend like this puppy - hope you too!

'Merdeka' Spirit

It's gonna be a long weekend for me...thought of taking leave come this Mon, 30 Aug - I had to bring Chardon for his clinic appointment and the next day, 31 Aug is our Malaysia's Independence Day (Merdeka Day) which is a public holiday for Malaysian. So right now I'm feeling kinda of patriotic already...I know I'm so late in having this so called 'Merdeka Spirit' that I didn't even kibar a single Malaysia & Sabah flag earlier - what a shame huh?

Well...I'll be spending time with my family (as usual at all weekends). Will go buy a new box of watercolours for Carmen for her to do some painting at the weekend (love to encourage my children with creative activities) and will listen to the music of Mozart with Chardon as well. That's how simple my weekend is. Or I thought of also visiting my grandma & sister at our village home at Kampung Rani, Tenghilan - we'll see:)

Anyway, happy weekend to you people. Guess who's that guy in the cool picture? See you next week...

Fun Friday

Today...time spent during the working hours was fun, not because it was pay day a few days ago but me and my also movie addict bestie always have a movie day each week especially on Friday...and yes since we both adores Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, we went to watch 'Tooth Fairy' (click on the website here to know more)

Enjoyed it SO MUCH - cos it's damn funny and I got a bit emotional as well, 'The Rock' could surely act well...no matter action or comedy, he's really good actor and of course SO hunky-licious and charmingly good looking! Check out the trailer:

This weekend...will be looking forward to watch some movies at home like...

1) Lovely Bones

2) Hua Mulan (Cantonese)

Now can't wait to watch Johnny Depp's upcoming movie - Alice in Wonderland (in March) Just love those kind of fantastical movies especially if it's directed by Tim Burton.

Well besides the so called movie of the year - Avatar, I also recommend you watch this two movies...

1) Like Stars on Earth/Taare Zameen Par (Bollywood movie - but not really the typical one, a family type movie but it's worth watching)

2) Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus (last movie role of the late Heath Ledger)

There goes my weekend...movies at home but will try to do other fun things too if laziness doesnt rule me. Happy weekend people - hope it will rain so I could have a good and cooling afternoon nap (ha!)

Weekend's errands & stuffs

Weekend is here again...(TGIF!)and I know for sure I'll be or try to be busy...doing some stuffs like - being invited to sing (2 solos and a duet) for a friend's wedding this Sunday (urgh..I haven't had enough practise yet!), to finish up my company's Committee Meeting Minutes (priority!), if I have time I want to create/design my own MJ's mini white glove key ring (I've bought the embelishments so I've got to do it),

...and then design some greeting cards, watch some movies - The Ugly Truth, My Sister's Keeper, etc, arrange all my books, mags, articles printouts, etc and set up a temporary library corner and activities with Carmen (a must)...I hope!

And as I promise myself I'll put up a picture of my now two weeks old nephew, Arwen. He's adorable and looked so much like his daddy (sorry Chrissie). By the way, his middle name is spelled 'Edel' actually, Chrissie changed her mind. My older bro's nickname is 'DEL', short for Disney Edward Lai.

Well, happy weekend...enjoy yours as I will enjoy mine! Mama Rock love ya people - PEACE!

Cute Homes

This is a long overdue post but I still wish to share and put this up on this online journal. Anyways, My family and I had a getaway trip to the mountain side (Kundasang area) during one of the August weekends. The weather was pretty cloudy and there was a lil downpour. So we could'nt even view Mt. Kinabalu and the trip was just okay. But what's interesting was we visited a mini resort called the Kiram's Village where they have cute chalets for rent. I told my husby, if we were to build our own family vacation house someday...I want a cottage-like home like one of those chalets/cabins. So cute! Here are some photos of those cute homes...

Before we reached Kundasang, we stopped to have lunch at the Bamboo Restaurant to have one of our fav family dish - the chicken tuhau mayonaise. The food was not as good as before (dah merosot)...and they should hire a better chef. No wonder, less people are going there to eat.

Will plan another family outing sometime in the future and this time we'll spend the night at Kiram's Village.

Floating Book Fair

Yes! So happy that the MV Doulos, the floating book fair I called it, is revisiting Kota Kinabalu from 29 Aug - 20 Sept. Looking forward to buy some children books for CJ and of course some nice books for me too...just hope they have some cute notebooks as well cos I go nuts on notebooks.

Anyways, I'm taking leave tomorrow to accompany my sister, Chrissie to go for 3D scan her baby - I'm so excited! She's about 6 months pregnant and pity her that her policeman hubby is not around to be with her cos he's based in Bukit Aman, KL. Hopefully his transfer to Sabah next year will be materialised cos Chrissie and the soon to be born baby needs him. I heard its a boy!

And another plan this weekend...might go family outing to the mountain side, jalan-jalan around Kinabalu National Park, Mesilau and Kundasang. Can't wait to have fun with the family. You too - have a blast weekend.

So lets rock our weekend!

No wasting time for the weekend

Weekend is here again....time passes so fast. I'm gonna do and work on something worth while this weekend...I must not waste my time like last weekend (sigh) so firstly I need to come up with my 'list to do things'.

Happy weekend people! I'll leave you with some important tips to take care of your health.....

1. Answer the phone by LEFT ear.
2. Do not drink coffee TWICE a day.
3. Do not take pills with COOL water.
4. Do not have HUGE meals after 5pm.
5. Reduce the amount of OILY food you consume.
6. Drink more WATER in the morning, less at night.
7. Keep your distance from handphone CHARGERS.
8. Do not use headphones/earphone for LONG period of time.
9. Best sleeping time is from 10pm at night to 6am in the morning.
10. Do not lie down immediately after taking MEDICINE before sleeping.
11. When battery is down to the LAST grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.

And also you may want to check out Gwyneth Paltrow's website GOOP to make you feel good and energise your soul this weekend. It's really worth while reading it...inspiring and amazing actually, besides those negative controversy from critics that they "do not get it" but I totally get it.

Mmmmmm....listening to Jazon Mraz cool music now...I'm really looking forward to my weekend.

Remember be happy, put lots of smiles on your face, have a good heart and most of all have fun!

XOXOXO from Mama Rock
