SIE2008 Networking Luncheon & Press Conference (22 Apr 08)

Once again...which I have no choice but involved in another SIE function...we had the SIE2008 Networking Luncheon & Press Conference today held at the Grand Ballroom 1, Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort. One of my task (as usual) is to coordinate the seating plan for the VIPs and function room set-ups (boring actually cos I hate last minute preparations and changes made by some fickle minded people..urrghh)

Anyways, these are some of my nice, sweet and fun crazy colleagues (with Emilia, Jerry aka Papa Sweet, Yap and Stella (the greatest boss ever).

Since there is not enough seats for the SIE2008 Secretariat staffs at the Luncheon...five of us had our lunch at STAR's Tatu Restaurant. Sad and with regret to say that the food quality at Tatu is not attractive at all but pretty dissappointing. The interior decor is ok / not bad. I ordered grilled teriyaki chicken skewers...tasteless. Pity that the restaurant is half empty...am not surprise. Lucky for us...the bill charged to SIE account...kakaka.

Me and colleagues sempat berposing lagi...the guys control macho and we girls control ayu

Jolly good weekend

I had a pretty good weekend. In Harmony, my singing group got together again after being less active in the music scene (church music industry only lah...hehe) for a quite sometime. We were invited to sing a few songs at the newly built Kota Kinabalu City SDA English Church (pic above) at Jalan Bukit Padang last Saturday, 19 April. I do miss the old times when all of us where still young and beautiful (muahaha..perasaan..I think we still are...perasaan again) and SINGLE (for me and five others). Ita (our group's pianist) has more details here.

From L - R: Hazel, Flory (both 2nd sopranos), Lona, me (both 1st sopranos), Juanita (pianist), Lola & Beevy (both altos). Not in the picture are Ruth & Connie (also altos).

Something I like about this church - a cute bell and a beautiful stained glass window.

Later after church service, we had a nice lunch potluck provided by the church members...good food (mostly vegetarian really). I'm crazy over the potato salad....just look at my plate...ketara am hungry.

And then on Sunday, 20 April....we family (Me, Zorab & Carmen) visited my grandma at my kampung in Rani, Tenghilan. This is CJ's 2nd visit. We went to see a family camping activities at another kampung further up called Kg. Dundung. The camping ground is actually a mini golf range but kampung style and camping activities is quite popular among the kampung folks there and there is cute little stream nearby. The land actually belongs to one of my close relatives and it's beautiful place I should say.

While We Are Young

While we are still in our youth,
It’s a time full of life for me and you,
While we are still young and energetic,
It’s a time we always want to be enthusiastic,
And while we are still young at heart or in truth,
We tend to think there will always be time for everything.

When we are still young and raw,
There’s always time to learn something new,
When we are young we are always on the go,
Life is exciting and full of adventures,
We seldom take time to think
Of actions and reactions,
Of sins and consequences,
Until we are hit back by what we have done
And then maybe it will be too late for us.

While we are still young and youthful,
We should try to make our life beautiful,
Not only in appearance but also in truth,
We should look deep within ourselves and if we find some nasty things lurking in us,
We should take them out
Like trash to be disposed of,
We must turn a new leaf and make amends so we can be truly happy.

By Suzanna Cheung Pik Wan from her book of verses and thoughts intitled 'Wall & Friends'. She was born with cerebral palsy and had no formal education. But at the age of 21, she had mastered typing with her right toe on the typewriter and took her 2 years to learn.

Ya, we should always love ourselves and think that each of us are special in our own different ways. I want to always believe that I can still follow my dreams and to live life to the fullest.

Talking about being young...here's a cool video by Mika 'Lollipop'. Love this song!

Jet Li vs Jackie Chan

Ooh la la....can't wait to watch 'The Forbidden Kingdom' that starred Jet Li and Jackie Chan in action together for the 1st time...showing on Cinema this Friday, 18 April. Seems like it's Hollywood/Hong Kong collaboration of another great epic with lots of Kung Fu actions all the way but hope the story is not gonna be slow boring like 'Hero' and 'Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon'.

Check out behind the scenes footage and movie trailer here:

Synopsis: In Forbidden Kingdom, American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano), who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China. There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan (Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk (Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King - imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Along the way, while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors, Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness, Ni Chang (Li Bing Bing), Jason learns about honor, loyalty and friendship, and the true meaning of kungfu, and thus frees himself.

Let me check out if the dvd ciplak is already out in the cd stores downstairs...kekeke.

Visit to the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park

My family and I visited Sabah's own and newly completed zoo aka the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park last 30 March 2008. I've always wanted to bring my Carmen to see the animals there. It was actually a school field trip organised by the Sabah Training Primary School, a Tamparuli based mission school where my husband worked as the principal there and we took the chance to join them and so does some of the teachers and parents who also brought their entire family along. It was a pretty fun and enjoyable day...especially for my little Carmen... although it was a bit tiring to go around the park on foot...hope they can improved their facilities like start operating those mini train rides for people to go around.

Check out some of the animals (including birds) they have in the park here:

It was funny listening at these so called intelligent bird aka the 'burung tiung' and they can really talked like humans do....well simple & common sentences only though such as 'hello, siapa nama kau', 'sudah makan kah' and 'bye'....so cool! Just look at my Carmen and her daddy's faces....concentrate je.

Pygmy Elephants - am wondering what is that male elephant doing with it's nose....

Bengal Tiger taking a nap

The Lemur from Madagascar - Carmen's favourite creature

Proboscis Monkeys - you don't have to go to Sukau, Sandakan or Klias, Beaufort anymore to see this famous Dutch man of Borneo (?).

One should abide these rules and regulations at the park...please appreciate and care for our wildlife ya!
