Oh Paris!

I had a weird dream last night - that I went for a trip to Paris, France and visited the Eiffel Tower. Oh I just wish the dream was real! A trip to Paris one day is on my wish list already. I might buy a nice jar to start saving for that trip - to one of the most romantic places on earth and yes and I mean Paris, the city of love. I guess this is the side effect of watching too much of 'Monte Carlo' - I love that movie so much that I watched not once but thrice. (the same effect got into me with movies like Clueless, French Kiss and Ever After - I know it's crazy that I'm a movie freak!)

I was helping my bestie, Melissa to do survey online for her future business on supplying wedding favors in Sabah or even getting ideas to do wedding favors for her own wedding (hopefully next year) and I came across this site and stumbled upon this pretty "Evening in Paris" Eiffel Tower place card holder by Kate Aspen. And the name on the card almost sounds like my name. How lovely is that.

And If I'm not married (I said IF ya)...I would like to date a French guy (hahaha)....ehem..particularly this French hottie - Pierre Boulanger who acted in Monte Carlo. This is what I defined as 'handsome'.

Okay..okay..wake up now Mama Rock - you are still up in the clouds...time to wake up. What a dream...Oh Paris!

Mantra for my soul

I got this from a friend's blog...and I thought it would be nice to post it up in here too. I often come across 'wisdom words' like this but not all that I put it into practise (talking about exercising daily). I always believe that I MUST & SHOULD do this - which I so-called 'mantra' for my soul everyday. Yes - I must and I should!

Well...you and everyone should do this in your daily life too ya:=)

The Sketchbook Project

So glad to meet up with super duper nice/sweet & creative friends Melly and her sister Isabel last Friday. They introduced me to 'The Sketchbook Project' which is very inspiring. They are inspiring people and so happy/thankful that we made a pact to inspire each other. Thought of participating - it could be very interesting to do something like this, this year (or next year) and I shall make it as my major project for 2011/2012 (I say wow to myself if I did this!). However, participation is not free, there will be a fee of USD25.

I could never get tired of watching this video over & over again - crazy inspiration I so so LIKE! My mind is full of artsy ideas right now - gives me all kinds of imaginations!

I hope the Brooklyn Art Library is okay for they will be closing due to the Hurricane Irene that's currently hitting the US East Coast.

By the way, Melly also gave me another very cool & inspiring site/link called Pinterest - I got addicted instantly! (luv ya Melly for that)

Listening to....."Who Says" by Selena Gomez

I heart this song a lot! I heard it a few times been played in the radio and I have no idea who sang it until I watch 'Monte Carlo' last night, Selena Gomez's latest movie. This song is one of the movie soundtracks and I just knew today - that this is Selena's song. Already, I'm starting to like Selena Gomez (I mean like a 'fan') cos she seems like a sweet person and Monte Carlo is a sweet & charming movie and I enjoyed watching it (it makes me smile!).

Anyways, the lyrics to this song is beautiful too, inspiring actually - I'm no beauty queen, I'm just beautiful me. You've got every right to a beautiful life!

Enjoy this song with me now and you can keep singing it in the bathroom (haha)

"Who says" sung by Selena Gomez

I wouldn't wanna be anybody else
hey

[Verse 1]
You made me insecure,
Told me I wasn’t good enough.
But who are you to judge
When you’re a diamond in the rough?
I’m sure you got some things
You’d like to change about yourself.
But when it comes to me
I wouldn’t want to be anybody else.

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na

I’m no beauty queen
I’m just beautiful me

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na

You’ve got every right
To a beautiful life
C'mon

[Chorus:]
Who says, who says you're not perfect?
Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?
Trust me, that's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty?
Who says you're not beautiful?
Who says?

[Verse 2:]
It’s such a funny thing
How nothing’s funny when it’s you
You tell ‘em what you mean
But they keep whiting out the truth
It’s like a work of art
That never gets to see the light
Keep you beneath the stars
Won’t let you touch the sky

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na

I’m no beauty queen
I’m just beautiful me

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na

You’ve got every right
To a beautiful life
C'mon

[Chorus:]
Who says, who says you're not perfect?
Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?
Trust me, that's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty?
Who says you're not beautiful?
Who says?

[Bridge:]
Who says you’re not star potential?
Who says you’re not presidential?
Who says you can’t be in movies?
Listen to me, listen to me
Who says you don’t pass the test?
Who says you can’t be the best?
Who said, who said?
Won’t you tell me who said that?
Yeah, who said?

[Chorus:]
Who says, who says you're not perfect? (Yeah)
Who says you're not worth it? (Yeah yeah)
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'? (Ooooh)
Trust me, that's the price of beauty (Hey yeah, beauty)
Who says you're not pretty? (Who said?)
Who says you're not beautiful? (I'm just beautiful me)
Who says?

Who says, Who says, you're not perfect?
Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?

[Chorus:]
Who says, who says you're not perfect?
Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?
Trust me, that's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty?
Who says you're not beautiful?
Who says?

Who says you're not perfect?
Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?
Trust me, (yeah) that's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty? (Who says you're not beautiful?)
Who says?

I haven't bought this album yet - but I probably will very soon. Her songs are pretty great.

So people - start believing and loving yourself more, who says you're not perfect!

My August 2011 Treat

I tried to be happy and feel blessed as much as possible with my life right now - I know I still have a long ride to go on life's journey that is unexpected and which I'll imagine it will be one great adventure for sure. So every month or at times once a week (it depends on my mood) that I'll treat myself something nice & special just to brighten up my day and of course be HAPPY! I'll buy something that makes me happy.

Here's what I got for me-self just a few days ago (thank God we have Times Bookstore here in Sabah). It's a little bit costly but I've been eye-ing this book for quite some time and I just got to have it. I believe this book could help me organise my goals in life by creating my life lists to do in my life.

This is what some of the contents looks like - there's a guidebook & journal, envelopes to keep things that inspires me (it could be a photo of trekking to Everest Base Camp, visit to a native American (aka Red Indians) territory, my children's artwork & etc as to guide me achieve my dreams/goals. Isn't this interesting - I wrote all of my wish list in life in many of my notebooks but now I have this as a proper one.

Love this book to death - will make full use of it!

Listening to.....Mia Palencia

I'm always a huge supporter of local artiste or even local artiste who made it through the international music scene. One of our local talent who made it BIG is Mia Palencia. She's multi talented Sabahan! I've always been a fan of her voice. Here's her latest music video 'The Revolutionary Hum' - totally LOVE it!

By the way....my pay is in (thanks boss for the early pay cheque) and I'm gonna treat me-self something nice again, and then buy some movie dvds and music cds (that's one of my weakness - can't stop buying them/in other words my 'major addictions') to watch/listen during the coming long weekend - let's have a happy Tuesday shall we?

Proud to be a Tamparulian!

A friend/cousin posted this 'short story' on her FB Notes and it made me giggled while reading because it has some touch of humour in it. Since I lived in this little town called Tamparuli, I asked her permission if I could post it in my blog. Glad she lets me. Read this through:

My Tamparuli Bridge - a short story by Wendell D. Gingging (in 1999)

I got on the suspension bridge. I stood there for awhile and watched it sway as the school children fearlessly bounced and played on the old bridge. I smiled as I remembered how as kids, we used to do the same. I walked up the bridge. It had an incline that was gradual and easy to climb. It is wide and looks very sturdy.

Built in the 60s and used by people countless times to get across the Tuaran River when it floods, it stood tall and proud as the most famous suspension bridge in Sabah. A song was even written about it and sung by thousands of people around Malaysia. That song is still a must sing in every Kadazandusun wedding. I smiled.

I tried to shake the bridge... it shook... but this did not seem to scare the kids. It's strong. Stories had it that when it was flooding in the 70s, a man crossed the suspension bridge with his Austin Mini. As I reached the top of the incline, I took in the view and was still amazed at the size of it all. The river below flowed slowly, fish were swimming innocently. I looked to my right at the fig tree that was fruiting. I walked closer to it and took a fruit, opened it, and smelled it. I laughed out loud. I threw the fruit into the river and watched the fishes come after it.

The wind was blowing and the cluster of bamboo growing on my left caught my attention. To us young men, the clearing near the bamboo was a favourite dating place. The water was cool and the breeze was just nice and when a passerby on the bridge you knew saw you with a pretty girl... oh well... it's another way of 'announcing' that you were going out with her. Oh, haha... and fishing at that spot was also good... if you really get to concentrate on it.

The bridge begins to shake... oh no, not kids again. As I look down, it was a group of tourists. I say hi. They were too scared to reply. They walked slowly as I stood there watching them. Picture-taking and laughter filled the bridge. As they eventually crossed the bridge, I just felt good that the bridge is so famous. Wow! I shook my head as I made my way slowly across.

I noticed the planks of the bridge were just changed. Good, I thought to myself, not so slippery when it rains. An old Chinese passed me on a bicycle. He is concentrating on not getting the wheels between the gaps. I turned around to see him go. Oh no! He got into a gap. He pulled out and continued his cycling.

I reach the other side and just wondered how it would have been without the bridge. Ferries? I don't think so. I watched two cars take their turn crossing the low-concrete bridge. It only can fit a car one way at a time. When it floods however, cars have to go on the higher bridge further down the river, but the suspension bridge stands mighty and tall, providing a way for the pedestrian to cross the river.

As I walked down the bridge, I feel the bounce of it. One side is bouncier than the other side. I keep bouncing on it till a lady comes with her bags of vegetables. I smiled to her and commented how I am just playing around. Her reply was quite ironic, she said, "Bah, bila lagi, lain kali kalau sudah tiada, nangis juga!" She laughed and went on her way. In English what she said was, "Well, better now than never. If this bridge goes, you're gonna cry!" I made my way to the shops and disappeared into the Wednesday market crowd.

Sure enough, this year in January, the flood took away my bridge and what was left was an uprooted beam and some cables. The tourists still come, to the Tamu, but not to a bridge. The Kadazandusun song does not apply anymore. No more bouncing. The new suspension bridge in the making will never replace the bridge many Tamparuli residents have learnt to love and depend on. I miss that bridge.

This was the original Tamparuli Hanging Bridge when it collasped in Jan 1999 due to the biggest flood that ever hit the town (picture courtesy of James Inson). I cried at that time after hearing that our famous bridge has collasped.

This is the new Tamparuli Hanging Bridge built for the convenience of the town's community. At first glance after it was built I thought it looks like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California. It's great that we had a new bridge but I still missed the old "original" one.

Many thanks to Trixie and Wendell for letting me re-post this cool story in here. They are also bloggers themselves - just click on their names to check out their cool blogs.

This short story explained it all - on why Tamparuli is considered famous as a tourist destination in Sabah and still is up to this day even with the new suspension/hanging bridge. And for that I'm proud to be a Tamparulian!

Now...let's enjoy the famous 'Jambatan Tamparuli' song composed and sung by Sabah's local (Dusun) singer, Justin Lusah (read more about it here).

I Luv Tamparuli!

Getting inspirations...

I need inspirations - lots of it so badly right now!

Movie to Watch: Monte Carlo

I think this is a cute movie to watch....pretty girls meets pretty boys, being daring and all. So I'll definitely will watch this movie sometime soon. Who doesn't like Selena Gomez? - she's pretty, young, lovable and extremely talented.

Storyline: A young woman, her uptight step sister and her best friend use their savings for a long anticipated dream trip to Paris, which turns out to be a big disappointment. When they decide to take a break from their lousy tour and duck into the lobby of a luxury hotel, one of them is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress. Before they get the chance to reveal their true identities they are wrapped up in misadventures during a vacation to Monte Carlo instead.
